On the Enterprise-A there were three shifts: Alpha (day shift/watch from 0800 to 1600), Beta (the swing shift, beginning 1600) and Gamma (night shift/watch, ending 0800).
On Enterprise-D, on the other hand, there were four shifts (the last being Delta) and Alpha shift ran from 0800 to 1200.
How are shifts organized on the Axion? And, roughly speaking, any idea who'll be taking which shifts? Senior staff are usually on Alpha shift in cannon, but they also sometimes command other shifts...

This is a very good point that I actually haven't addressed at all mostly because due to all of the excitement in a simm most characters tend to do "work most of the time" in my experience in simming. Followed by their usual breaks, individual characters tend to go through their own set shifts. You can choose which shift you would like to follow, for now, until I get something specific set up that is, or you can do what others do and simply work in some JPs and have "off time" in other JPs. It's kind of an unset sort of thing most of the time I find.

Well, at the moment I'd imagine everyone on board is working roughly 9-5 (as we call the usual Earth working day) because most of the crew aren't aboard and we're in dry dock, hurrying to get the ship ready.
For later, though, from what I understand of canon schedules; the senior staff usually take Alpha shift either on the bridge or in their specific department (in which case one of their subordinates - presumably one of the higher in rank - would be called in as a relief) and the lowest ranking crewmen usually get the night shift - be it Gamma or Delta - because it's seen as the least desirable.
To use Lena as an example, for the sake of seeing if I've not completely muddled this up, a Lieutenant j.g. (who has studied more than one branch of science) might serve as an Alpha shift relief (presuming they were working in the labs on Alpha shift, since reliefs need to get places quickly and thus are probably not being called out of bed, which means other people on the same shift or those who just finished theirs, but more likely the former) and, on other days, the person on the bridge for Beta (or possibly Gamma, if there are four) shift, while Ensigns and crewmen (especially the latter) would be most likely to work the Gamma and/or Delta shift. But, in the event that a department has a lot of work to do (say science has a lot of samples to analyze or are working on a major problem) schedules would automatically alter to, we need you working now - work.
Does that sound like it matches up with canon?

Yep, it does sound like it matches, but I'd also state that it's likely any crew-member regardless of rank who is a department head would have the Alpha shift :3 Since you're working so closely under Soshan I'd also say you'd get the alpha shift for the moment due to the fact that there are limited science personnel on board. And then in circumstances like battle or something important I suppose it would be more of an on-call type of thing.

That makes sense. Especially since this is a game (so why am I trying to apply so much logic to it? I must be mad) and it probably helps to have as many characters awake at the same time as possible.
...which probably means there's no point trying to figure out the current star date and equivalent earth date...

That is pretty much what I mean. Like, I could do it, and it would be reasonable and rational and it would feel more "real" but it would just be honestly too hard to implement. It's already hard enough to implement the actual timeline stuff to get everybody's posts in order which is why I included a link to a googledoc with all of the current JPs that you can read in order instead of reading them as they come up and going "WHAT" lol. So basically, my motto is, "sometimes your character is on shift in a JP and sometimes they're not on a shift in a JP, and in battle/emergency/bridge JPs they're all on shift". Just like it is in real Star Trek basically.

That's classic Trek, all right!
